Geothermal energy offers a major opportunity for both the UK and Croatia to bolster energy security with proven green technology. By harnessing this reliable domestic resource, both countries can cut reliance on costly imports, lower exposure to volatile markets, and drive job creation. Developing geothermal is also central to delivering a just transition from fossil fuels—sustaining local economies while building out a long-term, low-carbon energy industry.
Where we operate, geothermal energy will provide energy security and highly skilled jobs, reduce the reliance on energy imports whilst decarbonising the energy system. In the UK, geothermal heating will provide long term predictable heat prices for the public and private sector. In Croatia, geothermal electricity will provide renewable baseload electricity to the grid.
Geothermal energy differs from other renewable and non-extractive energy sources such as wind and solar because it provides a consistent and controllable supply of energy that is not affected by weather conditions, making its output predictable and stable.
