Our Chief Executive, Ross Glover, has issued a statement in support of World Geothermal Energy Day, highlighting the contributions of geothermal energy systems and the positive impact they have for the economy and on our society.

Star Energy is playing a key role in the UK’s transition to sustainable and predictable heat provision. Do get in touch if you would like to learn more about our transition story.

Chief Executive of Star Energy, Ross Glover, said:

“World Geothermal Energy Day highlights the significant role geothermal energy is already playing in decarbonising heat and power internationally.  Geothermal has a key role to play in the UK’s energy transition by providing home-grown, predictable, renewable heat option for businesses and households, contributing to the Government’s 2050 net-zero ambitions.

“The geothermal industry is playing a crucial role in advancing the renewable energy sector and Star Energy is uniquely placed to lead the UK’s geothermal energy heat provision by utilising our expertise, gained over decades in the energy sector. To ensure investment is not curtailed we’re encouraging the Government to

(1) Recognise the significant contribution that geothermal energy can make to decarbonising heat in the UK; and
(2) Reconsider the current scope of the Energy Profits Levy which risks hampering the ability of energy companies to make crucial investments in renewable energy projects.

“To fully unlock the potential of geothermal energy, and to achieve a sustainable heat provision, we must ensure that regulation supports long-term investment, enabling geothermal and other renewable energy sources to thrive, to create a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
