At Star Energy, we specialise in the full development and long-term operation of deep geothermal heating systems across the UK. Our geothermal business is focused on delivering large-scale, low-carbon heat infrastructure that supports the decarbonisation of towns, cities, and public services, helping the UK transition to a net zero future.

We combine decades of experience in subsurface engineering and onshore energy production with the specific technical, environmental and regulatory knowledge required to deliver successful geothermal projects. From initial feasibility through to operations and maintenance, we manage every stage of the geothermal project lifecycle.

Delivering End-to-End Geothermal Projects

Our core focus is the development of deep geothermal doublet systems. These typically involve drilling two wells up to 5,000 metres into underground reservoirs to access naturally heated brine. The heat is extracted at surface using a closed-loop heat exchanger, and the cooled fluid is reinjected back underground to maintain system pressure and sustainability. Once at the surface, the extracted heat can be supplied directly to heat networks, commercial users, hospitals, universities, housing developments, and industrial estates. Our systems are engineered for reliability and efficiency, and can be scaled to meet local demand or integrated with other low-carbon technologies.

We offer feasibility analysis, site investigation, permitting, engineering design, procurement, construction management, system installation, commissioning, and full lifecycle operations and maintenance. The UK faces a major challenge in reducing carbon emissions from heating, which remains one of the country’s largest energy demands. Geothermal is a proven, low-carbon solution capable of providing continuous, high-volume heat without reliance on fossil fuels or intermittent generation. Star Energy is focused on deploying geothermal systems in areas with high heat demand and favourable subsurface conditions. Our projects are designed to serve public sector institutions, new residential developments, and retrofit heat networks in urban areas. We work in partnership with local authorities, NHS trusts, universities, developers, and energy companies to plan and deliver systems that meet both technical and commercial requirements.

We also actively engage with government and industry to support policy development, permitting frameworks, and investment mechanisms that enable the growth of geothermal heat as a mainstream solution within the UK’s renewable energy mix.

Our technical teams use modern software for reservoir modelling and infrastructure design, and we maintain close working relationships with regulators, consultants, and technology providers. Our knowledge of UK geology, combined with our in-house engineering capacity and long-term operational approach, allows us to deliver geothermal projects that are technically viable, commercially attractive, and future-proofed for decades of service.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

The Carbon Energy Fund released a tender to select Innovation Partners to work with NHS Trusts across the UK to identify Low Carbon Heat opportunities. We were selected as preferred Partner by the CEF and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust for the Wythenshawe Hospital.

Manchester Therme Group

Feasibility work for an innovative geothermal geo-exchange solution for the Therme Wellbeing Resort in Trafford Park, Manchester. A trial borehole was drilled and thermal response testing carried out to determine the potential capacity for heat and cooling supplies to the development. This work identified that the Trafford Park area has amongst the highest capacity in the country.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
